I first started reading this series I was excited. Then more and more characters were introduced and I became confused, then more characters were added and I became bewildered, then more characters were added and I became angry, and then more characters were added, well then I was just tired and now more characters have been added, well now I am done! I really had high hopes going into this series, but by the end of book 2 I was ready to throw in the towel. Instead, I threw the book at the wall. First of all, every epic fantasy writer's ideas are re-purposed in these books - from a hog-riding dwarf (see: "The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies" - photo above), to telepathically-bonded, jewel-colored dragons and their riders (shades of McCaffrey and Melanie Rawn), and I could go on and on - with apologies to Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman. This author also has a problem with Human Females. He introduces 2 in the first book - both of which never make it to the end of the volume. Then, in book 2, he has the only human female apprentice mage (Atharia Danell) possessed by her former boss and teacher, the Human Mage Hadavad! Freud would have a field day with this one! Oh, and there is a human female leader of a bunch of cannibals who calls herself a "goddess". I feel a headache coming on. All we have left are Female Elves and Human Males - see where this is going? Yep, human/elf hybrids which the author thinks that all the human females reading the series could identify with. Ah, no. So, if you are a human female, find another series. This saga is for he-man women-haters only. If you've read most of the classic fantasy series' books, you're not going to find much of anything new here. Sad, really. But on the plus side, the book covers are nicely done - even if most of them don't have a thing to do with the story.
